Of Irish origin, the name McGee comes from the Gaelic Mac Aodha, ‘son of Aodh’, an ancient personal name meaning ‘fire’. It first appears in the area of Dumfries,
Scotland at the end of the 13th Century. In the early 17th Century, a number of Scots MacGees began to settle in Ireland; many of their descendants later emigrated
to America during the 18th and 19th Centuries.
