I’m a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy; I make my living “going down to the water in ships.” Except for being away from the family for months at a time, it's a job I truly love. Where else can you get paid money to spend winters in southern Spain? Or Easter in Rome visiting missionaries? Or summer in Bahrain?
I’ve been stationed in Virginia, Rhode Island, and Monterey, California. Right now, I’m working on beautiful Coronado Island in San Diego, in charge of a small force protection unit.
Melanie is a blessing beyond words to our family. She works many times harder than I do, taking care of 4 children, teaching them every day (in and out of school), and caring for our house. She is the ultimate Navy wife – as Proverbs says, I can trust her and she does me good every day of our lives.
I’m incredibly thankful for the way she loves our children – she teaches them with wisdom and kindness. Her devotion to her calling gives me freedom to serve in my job. Her life displays grace from beginning to end.
About to finish the 4th grade, Katherine is growing faster than we could ever imagine. She is in her fourth season of Scottish Highland Dancing, and is making great progress. A voracious reader, we can barely pry Nancy Drew books from her hands. This is also her fourth year in the AWANA program, which she enjoys every week. Katherine has a wonderful helping heart – she serves Melanie well, especially in taking care of her baby sister.
Thomas, our 1st grader, loves LEGOs ® as much as his father did; he easily imagines new space ships to build. Also a Highland Dancer, Thomas is doing a great job as he learns several new dances. In his fourth year of AWANA, he is moving well through his Sparkies book this year. Thomas is our deep thinker – he really gets us with some good questions! If we can’t find him in the house, he’s probably outside on his scooter.
Abigail turned 5 this year and is in kindergarten – she couldn’t wait! She always wishes she was older, though – it’s a tough job trying to catch up with her older siblings. Even though this is her first year as a Highland Dancer, she has watched Katherine so keenly that she is learning several of the advanced dances already. She is learning to read this year, and also enjoys her weekly AWANA time – she is in the same class with Thomas. She’s still our little princess though; dressing up and painting her nails are always a big hit for her.
Lydia is, for now, the baby in the house. She will be a year old soon, and is starting to walk – just a few steps for now. She is our most snuggly of the four. We’re happy that she’s resilient – it can be rough to have three older siblings all trying to help you!
